Music From The Third Floor: Vol. 3

Music From The Third Floor: Vol. 3

Compilation no. 3, another CD-R's worth of sounds culled from the last 30 or so posts. A fair amount of old school (pre-60s) selections this time, hence – in part – the b/w cover art. It's such an amazing still though (from 'Awara'); Nargis' pose, her expression... very sensuous.

Track listing:
1. Title Music (from The Burning Train)
2. Aa Jane Jaan (from Intaqam)
3. Jan Pahechan Ho (from Gumnaam)
4. Kya Yahi Pyar Hai (from Rocky)
5. Too Mera Chand (from Dillagi)
6. Been Music/Man Dole Mera Tan Dole (from Nagin)
7. Om Shanti Om (from Karz)
8. Aaj Ki Raat (from Anamika)
9. Kya Jane Yeh Duniya Kya Jane (from Toote Khilone)
10. Prabhuji Dedo Ek Suntaan (from Nasbandi)
11. Do Chamakti Aankhon Mein (from Detective)
12. Background Music (from Vijeta)
13. Baghon Mein Bahar Hai (from Aradhana)
14. Doston Se Pyar Kiya (from Shaan)
15. Tere Bina Aag Yeh Chandni (from Awara)

Listen on Mixcloud.

Cover star: Nargis (from 'Awara', 1951)

  5. A thousand blessings upon you for this blog and this mix.

And I see that you've included background music from Vijeta... guh. You kill me.

You know what would be FAB? A background music mix! If only because MusicIndiaOnline means that we can listen to most songs, but we can only get Hindi background music from you and Parties, Sarees and Melodies!

Have you heard Barsaat? Great golden oldie stuff. Perfect if you liked Awara. Chodd Gaye Balam is a fab, melodious tune.

  6. I've heard bits of Barsaat, haven't got the album though.

  7. Hi PC,

    Great mix again - cheers!

As well as the music being so cool, your art work is always brilliant. Any chance you could explain how you do it? I find the iTunes default artwork unsatisfactory, and usually fart around for hours trying to make my own which inevitably ends up looking crap!

    Any tips gratefully accepted,

    Julian

  8. Julian; sorry for the late reply... are you thinking about the artwork for the compilations? They're just stills I've found on the web, fiddled about with in Photoshop to compensate for too low a resolution to be of much use as is, and a title done in an 'exotic' looking type face. Not a lot to it really :-)

Artwork for the rest are of course cover scans.

  9. Hi PC and thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, it was the compilation art work that impressed me. I realised the others were scans.

What I admire is how you get the margins right! I can never seem to set them correctly and waste paper and ink on ill-fitting attempts. Is there a default setting for making CD inserts?

It may not seem a lot to you, but it's way beyond this Luddite!

  10. Ah, alright... maybe a bit more to it then ;-)

When doing the final layout I use InDesign (Adobe's professional layout software) where I among other things can define the size and placement of any element (including margins and crop marks) down to a fraction of a millimeter. I'd expect other programmes have similar functionality... even Word, although I never use that (being allergic to anything Microsoft) so I'm not entirely sure.

As for default CD-insert settings... I guess there are, and you can probably find templates on the web if you google around a bit. I make them 122 x 122 mm (or 244x122 for a fold over one).

Not sure if this helps at all...?

  11. Cheers, PC, that's a great help. I'll have another dig around my mac to see what it can do and meander through the internet for default settings! With your pointers, perhaps I'll be able to figure something out now.
    Thanks again.
    Now, back to the music!

  13. Wonderful blog. I'd always liked some Bollywood tunes with western influences but had no idea where to begin until I found this place. And it's so well written too.

  20. FileFlyer seems to be the only link to work, but it ask for a password.
Could you let me know what it is please?

  21. There's never been a password, must be something implemented by Fileflyer.
