Rahul Dev Burman: Mehbooba (1976)

Mehbooba

More Burman, but of a different sort. This one's all traditional, devoid of electric guitars, moogs, beats and cabaret numbers. It's still quite trippy though, so in a way I sort of like it - I can get into the atmospheric 'Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon', some of the cool instrumental breaks in 'Gori Tori Paijaniyan', the mood of 'Parpat Ke Peechhe' - but I can't decide if the melodies on this album are as strong as they should be. I find my mind wandering halfway though them all (cue smart-alecky comments about attention span) thus leaving me uncertain if 'Mehbooba' in fact is a keeper or I can chuck it in the "for sale" box. (Not that I expect to get much for it; copies on eBay seldom make it past the starting bid. I can't believe I actually acquired this as a trade-in for my spare copy of 'Haré Rama Haré Krishna' - in terms of potential profit, not the wisest transaction I've ever conducted.)

Some more listens first perhaps...

  4. Hi, i would like to congratulate you for this website, it's really great. I had much fun listening to your records. The only problem is the slow downloading, easy share sucks, rapidshare has by far the best service. But we can't have it all... and this site is 9/10, near perfection. With rapidshare will get 10/10 :D

  5. Yes - the vinyl (or the CD for that matter) does not have the Kishore Kumar song included.

I can only assume that this song was added at the last minute (or something like that!

    Good album though!

  8. Would love to hear this in pristine Vinyl converted format rather than mechanical CD :) Any chance of a new link added for this album? Many thanks.
